EarCandy #10 - Descansando by Fuerza Regida

Music has a unique way of describing emotions and settings that we have all lived before; but describing them in a way we have never thought of. Descansando by Fuerza Regida is a perfect example of this. Descansando is a song about loss, and if you have never lost before, you have lost love, so we can all relate to that.

One of the many reasons I have become so obsessed with Mexican music is how beautifully different the English translations can be. Verses that are musically satisfying in Spanish, are not in English. But when finding the translation is pretty enough to bring tears to a person’s eye:

Voy a abrazar a mi padre cuando sople el viento

Voy a besar a mi madre cuando llueva recio

No olvidaré a mis pequeñas, mi mayor tesoro

”Carnal, cuídalas,” es lo que pide este morro

I’ll hug my father when the wind blows

I’ll kiss my mother when heavy rain falls

I won’t forget my little girls, my greatest treasure

“Brother, take care of them” is what this guy asks

What is a rhythmic song in Spanish, could be a poem in English. Whether it’s the wind or the rain, we all remember our people in the details of our daily lives: the birds flying or the sunsetting, are often interpreted as people we once knew, and still love, letting us know they love us back. We take them as symbols and messages of hope and comfort. The details we live for, the ones that build us brick by brick, into the people we are.

What is arguably harder than losing someone or something you love, is coming to terms with the fact, that you will be someone’s loss one day. We are gaurenteed one thing after life, and that is death. It is up to us to use our lives how we choose:

Ya es la hora

Que me vaya

Tal vez no regrese, pero antes que parta

Les recuerdo

Que los quiero

Me fui alegre montado en mi ranfla

It’s time

For me to go

Maybe I won’t come back, but before I leave

I remind you all

That I love you

I left happy, riding in my ride

I believe most of humanity is full of people doing what they believe to be right. Once we can accept that, we can start moving toward solution and progression. I just hope that when it is my time, people will look back at my life with a smile and maybe a tear of joy. Maybe I shouldn’t look for validation through other people, but at the end of the day, we’re in it together.

And if you don’t like the words or cannot understand them, listen to the music. Because there is nothing like a banda mexicana.
