DailyThought #51 - Normalcy

When we imagine places different from our home, we often think of differences in culture, food, security, or religion. Though there are differences and the fruits of life grow on many trees, it isn’t until you travel to these places that you realize the constant of human normalcy. These people suffer as we suffer, they eat as we eat, they laugh as we laugh.

When you see children running through cobblestone streets, listening to music you do not understand, you may finally understand that they are the same children in the front yard chanting a familiar tune.

Though there is a level of normalcy that can be found anywhere between our land and theirs, there are some places where our normalcy is their commodity. We should strive for to ensure that everyone has the chance to live a normal life. Not for gain or glory, but because it is the right thing to do. If your brain tries to talk you out of it, listen to your gut. If your gut rumbles for the same food you eat everyday, find it in your heart. Only then, when your brain, gut, and heart understand that the life you lead is a normal one, and that normal is full of luck, can you understand that we should fight for each other - not with each other.

On my drive home every day, the sun sets in my rearview mirror. I can't help but turn my head behind me, losing focus on the road ahead of me. Colors mix within the clouds as I swerve left and right.
