DailyThought #42 - Travel

I believe movement is necesary for progression. If you are moving, you are finding. Finding how different life is from place to place, person to person. When I moved to Guadalajara, Mexico, I came with a curiosity in difference. I found a lot of difference in culture, tradition, and community, but what was so surprising to me is how similar life on earth is. Humans lead a lot of different lives, but are bounded by our biology. Smiles in my hometown spoke the same meaning in Mexico. It is amazing how complex, yet so simple we are. We separate ourselves through detail, but we are the same, and we want the same. We want to give love, and be loved, we want to protect our own, even if that means hurting our foes.

The details are beautiful, though. This is what makes traveling interesting: there is enough that is different, just to remind us how we are all the same. I often reminisce on my time in Guadalajara. I become jealous of my past self. But I continue traveling within myself, remembering old versions of me, of which I am no longer, and finding new versions of me, of which I feel stronger. But through the ups and downs, I remind myself that I am only human: imperfect, but true.
